The Harvey Weinstein scandal has taught us several lessons about how we can protect ourselves from sexual harassment, assault and rape.
Numero uno is don’t agree to meet your prospective employer in a hotel room.
Don’t get me wrong. Weinstein is to blame for doing what he did – not his victims.
But had his many victims refused to meet him there – as some women did – they would not have had to experience the vulgarities they did. Those women who refused were not sexually harassed or assaulted there.
Since our mission is to help Americans protect themselves from the tens of thousands of child abuse and domestic, dating and sexual violence perpetrators, we believe an ounce of prevention is indeed worth a pound of cure.
No one should put her or himself in a position where she or he feels uncomfortable. Listen to the still small voice within you to guide you. Tragically tens of thousands have put themselves in positions or places they should not have and either lived to regret it or, worse, been killed.
